Making Progress

In one of my earlier posts I laid out my goals for 2014. Lots of people do that at the beginning of a new year, but do they follow through with it? Well, I am certainly making every effort to hit all of my goals for the year.

First of all, my nutrition and training modifications have already been paying off. I did start changing things at the end of last year and have been fine tuning them ever since. In the last couple of months, I have dropped about 10 lbs and leaned up A LOT! I was SHOCKED when I took my measurements the other day. My waist is down an inch, my hips are down about two inches and my thighs are down about an inch or two. I am certainly getting leaner and stronger! WOW!

These changes have also paid off with training and racing. A few weeks ago, I ran the best marathon I have ever run on a less-than-ideal day and with running fewer miles in the couple months leading up to it. Personally, my ideal running weather is somewhere around 40-50 degrees. Ten degrees warmer and I get a little cranky. It was about 58 degrees at the race start for the Disney Marathon. Thankfully, it didn’t warm up much more than that, but it was still not my favorite weather to race in. However, I still managed to squeak out a one minute and 13 second PR and ran negative splits. I also have never felt better during a marathon. Yes, they still get uncomfortable, but I never got that What The Hell Was I Thinking Signing Up For Another Marathon feeling. It was the Holy Shit I’m Not Dying At The End of This Race feeling. Even if I hadn’t managed to PR, I would still write this one down as the most successful race I’ve ever run (to date). Now, I just need to shave off another 15 minutes or so to ensure entry into Boston.

Now, I’m starting to hit training harder again and my last few runs have been fantastic! Surprisingly, I have been running the same paces or faster than I was in the fall despite recovering from the marathon and a cold. We had one of the toughest workouts we have ever subjected our runners to the other day and I ran it FAR better than I ever could have expected. It was tough, I was exhausted, but I nailed it. My workouts last week and my long run over the weekend were also VERY good. Hopefully, the trend will continue.

Our ICE Training Sessions are getting better and better. Unfortunately, attendance hasn’t grown, but hopefully that will change soon. We’ve been getting a little creative with some of the workouts to make them fun and keep things interesting. We are also doing a free session on February 5th to encourage people to come out and give it a try.

My personal training business has been picking up, especially my online training. I love doing the one-on-one training, but I know the online training will be very beneficial for helping clients in other locations or those with tight schedules and tight budgets. One step at a time!

The big news is I went ahead and signed up for my Metabolic Precision nutrition certification! My study materials should arrive soon. I am SO excited to do this. I know this will take my fitness career to a new level, in addition to taking my own training and fitness levels to a higher level. This will likely be one of the best moves I have made so far.

So much progress has been made in just a month! I am excited to share this and really looking forward to achieving all of the goals I’ve set forth. There is still a lot of hard work ahead, but it will all be worth it.
