As 2013 winds down, I can’t help but think about what the next year will bring. Many things have been set in motion in 2013. Hopefully, 2014 will bring more growth professionally, personally and to my overall health and fitness.
Many new relationships have been formed over the last year and others have grown. Finally, I took the chance to continue my education in health and fitness and pursue my passions. All of these steps I have taken have really laid a solid foundation for the coming year.
What are my plans and goals, you might ask. Well, I have so many! My mind races with possibilities. Usually, I have to tame it down and think a little more realistically about things. I tend to be a little enthusiastic about my passions and jump in the deep end. Sometimes, it gets me into trouble, but usually, it’s just a hell of a lot of fun! I have been told I don’t do anything under 100 miles per hour. That’s just my personality. When I want something bad enough, I go for it. Why not?
In January, my good friend, Michelle Adams and I will be starting up an Intense Cardio Exercise training class (ICE for short). Michelle is one of the newer friends I picked up over the last year. We really just clicked right off the bat! We are both very passionate about health and fitness and her experience and guidance has really helped me in my endeavors.
In addition to growing my own personal training and coaching business, I hope to grow our cardio class and really get as many people involved and motivated to change habits and lead a healthier lifestyle through diet and exercise. Michelle is going to be a great partner for that and I feel very fortunate we met when we did.
Michelle is also a sports nutritionist and certified in Metabolic Precision (mp-body.com). She has given me a lot of pointers for my own nutrition which have really been paying dividends in a short period of time. Check out Michelle’s blog for some of her great advice! http://adamsadmonitions.blogspot.com
Another one of my goals for 2014 is to also become certified in Metabolic Precision and provide my clients with nutrition advice. Really, the key to living a healthy and fit lifestyle is accomplished through both exercise and nutrition. Just because you run 50 miles a week or go to the gym six days a week does not mean you have a free pass to eat anything and everything. If you want a performance engine, why would you put crap fuel in it?
What else do I want to accomplish in 2014 besides growing my business and obtaining a nutrition certification? Well, I would really like to qualify for Boston and continue to improve my overall fitness levels. If I’m going to be in the health and fitness profession, I really need to lead by example! I know it will be a challenge to ensure I have time to focus on my personal fitness and running goals and grow my business, but challenges are fun for me. I’m a problem solver and, I like to think, master of time management. I can TOTALLY do everything!
I also plan to do a couple things I’ve never attempted before, besides setting a HUGE marathon time goal for myself. First, I’m running a couple relays. Second, one of them will be run with a six person team meaning the total mileage I’m assigned is over 30 miles! That’s not something I ever expected to be up for, but as I’ve said, I like challenges. Plus, I succumb to peer pressure rather easily.
It will be a precarious balancing act with a full time job, building a business, coaching and my own training, but I have an arsenal of resources to help me along the way. Thankfully, I’ve got my mentor and very good friend, Susan Paul for just about any and all advice on running, coaching, and anything related to exercise physiology. I also have Michelle, who has a lot of experience with weight training, nutrition and qualifying for Boston (she kicked some serious ass at the Space Coast Marathon). To help me work out my kinks, I have one of my best friends, Amanda Lappas who is also my massage therapist (check her out on Facebook). In addition, I have countless friends and family members for support, inspiration and guidance along the way.
This upcoming year will likely be challenging physically, mentally and emotionally, but you really can’t expect to grow unless you face a few challenges in life!
Have a happy 2014!
Krystal
