On September 13th, I took the American Council on Exercise personal trainer certification test and PASSED! Since then, I've been busy establishing my business (really boring legal stuff - that I did pretty much on my own) and working on getting some clients. I have my logo:
I also have my Facebook Page. I have my business cards, my business email, my business account and all the necessities. Soon, I'll have a really cool webpage, too, but one thing at a time.
I'm also happy to say I'm getting more and more clients here and there and slowly building my business. Taking the plunge and requesting to cut my hours at the day job to part time so I'd have more time to devote to my business has been one of the toughest things I've had to do so far (hopefully, that request is approved!!).
This has certainly not been an easy or stress-free move. I am one of those people who has to have all of her ducks in a row, a plan in place, a plan-B in place, a plan-C in place and a few safety nets in case all else fails, and I've become an expert at creating plans on the fly, but I think I'll do just fine! I need to follow my heart and do more of the things that make me feel like I'm making a difference in this world. This is my thing.
It has been a lot of work, but it's also been a lot of fun!! In October, I ran my first race since my marathon PR back in April. It was one of my favorite races, the U Can Finish 5-miler on the campus of the University of Central Florida which is where I obtained my BS in Legal Studies. My very good friend, Linda ran that day as well and we both came home with new PRs and awards! Somehow, I allowed a 52 year old rock star (and one of my inspirations) to beat me by 9 seconds. She claims it's only because I ran 22 miles the day before, but I just think it's because she's THAT good! :-)
We had five days of fun, trail runs, hikes on the Appalachian Trail, racing (and cleaning up on awards) and spending quality time with some of the best running buddies on the planet. I look forward to this trip every year and every year it just gets better and better!

Last night of fun at the Nantahala Brewing Company
Now, I am on to my next adventure. This will be the last few days of taper leading up to the New York City Marathon on November 3rd! I was supposed to run it last year, but Hurricane Sandy had other plans. I've had very mixed emotions about the race this year, but as the day gets ever closer, I get more and more excited. The best part will be sharing the experience with some of my best friends and getting to know some newer friends. No matter what kind of race each of us has, I know the experience we will have will be fun, full of laughs, maybe a few tears, and will be one we will never forget.
As I continue my journey, it has been such a blessing to realize just how huge my support crew is. I have been blessed with some very supportive family members, friends who (despite our ups and downs) I know will never leave my side and are always there to give me that little nudge I might need from time to time, and the strength, courage and maybe a little stubbornness to help guide me to the place I know I need to be. Thank you!! :-)
